Building on the Rock

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” Matthew 7:24

In my last devotion, I wrote we need a Jesus Revolution if we are to change our community for God. Before this revolution can start, we must build our lives on the Rock and that Rock is Jesus Christ. We must learn to live as Jesus taught us to live. The problem is most of us don’t know how Jesus taught us to live. 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ preached a profound sermon showing how converted Christians are to live. This sermon is referred to as the Sermon on the Mount. Christ’s words recorded in Matthew 5-7 are the words that we should live by. This sermon is the best known part of the teachings of Jesus, though it is the least understood and certainly it is the least obeyed.

This sermon is a manifesto of the Kingdom of God. If we are to bring God’s kingdom to earth, we must know what Jesus is telling us in The Sermon on the Mount. We have taken the most revolutionary document in history and turned it into something tame and not relevant. The Word of God has been turned into something dull and not alive. The gospel has been trimmed to fit the lifestyle of the undisciplined and indulgent men.
At the end of Matthew 4, we see Jesus calling His disciples to “come follow Me and I will show you how to fish for people.” This is our call today; a call to follow Jesus and bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. With this, the Jesus Revolution will start.

In the next devotions we will be digging deeper into the Sermon on the Mount and how it applies to our life. If we listen humbly to what Jesus is telling us, our lives will be transformed, our spirits will be refreshed, and our souls will be saved.
