“God blesses those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6
When I was first saved I could not get enough of God. I wanted to know more about Him and I wanted more of God in my life. I hungered and thirsted for God’s righteousness. I wanted to read the Bible because after being saved the Bible came alive for me. I just wanted to be closer to the God that loved me so much that He sent His Son to die for my sins. I have been saved for more than thirty years now and that hunger and thirst has only became stronger.
What is righteousness? It is being right with God, right with self, and right with others. When you hunger and thirst for God, you are causing the inner person to function as God made it to function. There is a unity to the life of the person whose deepest desire is to know God and to enjoy Him.
As the inner person is satisfied with righteousness, it becomes increasingly dissatisfied with sin. To begin with, the mind grows in its recognition of sin. The closer we get to the light, the easier it is to see the results of sin. The more we are satisfied with God, the more we are dissatisfied with the substitutes. Jesus Christ wants to create in us a deep hunger for God, a hunger for righteousness. It is this hunger that will change and control our lives as we satisfy it in Jesus.
God has never failed to satisfy that hunger I have for Him. At times I think, can I go any deeper with God? As always, God tells me that if I seek Him I will find Him or He will find me. Praise His Holy name!
