“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8)
This scripture looks like all we need to do is just ask God and He will give us anything we ask for. Some people today think that is what this scripture means. If you just have enough faith, God will give you anything. If that is what you think, you have not been reading and studying the Sermon on the Mount as I have. When this scripture is taken in context of the entire sermon, we see that Jesus is talking about His true disciples. Being a true disciple of Jesus Christ, we need to read the Beatitudes. This gives us a picture of what a true disciple looks like. Then we need to look at what our treasures are. Jesus tells us that our treasures are not of this world, but our treasures are stored in heaven where they will be safe. So what is Jesus talking about in this scripture? He is talking about the blessings of God and these blessings are not of this world. They are spiritual. If we are true disciples of Jesus Christ, our walk with God is not about the things of this world. It is about things of God. It is about doing God’s will in this world.
Are you seeking God’s will in your life and the direction you should go? Keep on asking and God will show you the way.
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.” (Revelation 3:20-21)
“If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
Keep on asking!
