“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.” Matthew 6:5
This part of the Sermon on the Mount is one of my favorites. It is my favorite because I believe that prayer is the most important thing that we can do in our walk with God. My prayer life is not what it should be. It needs much improving. The important thing about prayer is that we always need to be in communication with God. How will we know what God wants us to do if we are not talking to God?
“When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:8) Even after the rebellion of Adam and Eve God still wanted a relationship with them. He went to the garden and called out to them. He knew where they were and that they had rebelled, but He still loved them and wanted that relationship with them. The same is so true today, God wants a relationship with us. The reason He sent His Son to die on the cross was so we could have that relationship. This is the main reason we should pray. God wants to talk to us and He wants us to talk to Him. Yes, He knows it all but He wants to hear it from us.
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
