“But He answered and said, ‘It is written, ‘man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
Here we have the story of Jesus defeating Satan. Jesus had been in the wilderness for forty days and more than anything else Satan wanted to defeat Jesus. Satan wanted Jesus to rebel against God. This was the start of the war between Jesus and Satan. It does not end until Jesus’ death and resurrection.
If we look at the temptation of Jesus in these verses, we see how we are to fight Satan and his demons in our life. We are to use the word of God to fight Satan. The Bible is our most important weapon in this war that we fight. If we don’t know the word of God and stay in God’s word, how are we going to fight?
The greatest enemy of the church is not sin but ignorance. It is ignorance of the power of God’s word and the power that God has given us to fight against Satan. Hosea tells us that we are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Two things we must do if we are to endue in this battle we fight for the souls of men and women, we must get on our knees and stay in the word of God.
