“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
Endurance is the ability to remain under pressure for a length of time.
The writer of Hebrews tells us that because of our faith we can endure.
Our walk with God is a test of endurance. It is a test of how long can we maintain our walk with God, with all the problems of this world closing in on us.
I hear people today tell us if we have enough faith, we will not have to endure.
God will give us all we want, if we just have enough faith.
They tell us we will be blessed with material goods if we have faith. I don’t believe this is what the writer of Hebrews is telling us.
Jesus was the [as] Son of God and He had no material goods.
He endured because of His love for us.
He endured because God gave Him a mission to go to the cross and die for our sins.
Jesus entered the joy because of His endurance. He is now seated at the right hand of God.
If we are to endure, we must take our eyes off the world and fix them on Jesus, our example of endurance.
