“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)
As we move into the deeper life, we will find that Satan will fight us all the way. Satan does not want us to have a deep spiritual life and walk close to the Lord.
Satan is fine with lukewarm Christians, they are no threat to him.
The powers of darkness was waging warfare against Jesus in the Garden.
They wanted Jesus to disobey God and Jesus wanted His disciples to pray, instead they went to sleep. Jesus is telling them that they must pray if they are to defeat Satan.
Jesus was able to win the greatest spiritual battle of His life against the powers of darkness, without the assistance of His disciples.
He was vctorious through His prayer life to defeat the principalities and powers of Satan, but seemed to be heartbroken that these men were overcome by their weakness of the flesh and could not participate with His victory.
This was before they were filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. After they were filled, they had help with the weakness of the flesh.
Today we need to watch and pray that we can win the victory over Satan and all the powers of darkness. The key to our power in Jesus is prayer and help from the Holy Spirit.
