“And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.” (Luke 4:3-4)
God will never tempt us to sin, but He will allow temptations to come into our lives as a test; a test of our love and trust for God. This first temptation of Jesus was the same temptation Satan used in the Garden of Eden. Satan was wanting Jesus to doubt the goodness and love of God. Satan was telling Jesus that God was not going to provide for Him.
Have you been there before? I have many times.
You know God has everything under control, but then Satan comes to you and what does he say, if God really loves you and He is the all- powerful God, why has He not done something.
This is Satan’s trick. He wants us to start doubting God and what He can do for us.
Jesus was not going to be caught in this trick, so what did He do?
He did what we should do when Satan tells us these lies. He used the word of God against him. This word was found in (Deuteronomy 8:3)
That God provided for the people in the wilderness and that man does not live by bread alone. Man must have the word of God if he is going to live the abundant life.
What do we need to learn from this temptation of Jesus?
We need to learn that God loves us and will provide for us. That when we doubt, remember don’t believe the lies of Satan and when in doubt go to God’s word and find God’s promises. Trust God always, no matter what the situation looks like.
